Building upon the 12+yrs of retailing the MGB EFI kit we've given the MGB what its always needed and thats a high efficiency turbo kit. We've been at the fore front of development of high powered A-Series engines for 25 years and we've decided to bring the B Series engine into the 21st century also! The benefits of this kit just add to the remarkable difference our EFI kit makes on its own with a big emphasis on efficiency and torque production in a reliable and safe manner. Starting with the turbo which by default is a Garrett GBC 20-300 unit, we modify it to make it an external wastegate part using the Turbosmart external gates. We've gone this route for precise accurate and repeatable/tuneable aspects of an external gate over an internal one. The Turbosmart units are very high quality and do as they are requested by the ecu! we also wanted to protect the system for all power ranges these kits will be used with, the internal gates would become a limiting factor quite quickly in very high powered applications and they aren't as accurate to control as the external gates. It adds cost yes but it makes no compromises which is how we approach these conversion kits. The manifold and downpipe are UK designed and manufactured in "Schedule" pipe, mandrel bent and tig welded in our bespoke jigs, the downpipe has a O2/wideband location. We also utilise a high quality billet idle valve with a built in diaphragm to stop boot leak away from idle conditions, a Bosch element rising rate regulator, Bosch TMAP sensors, Marelli crank sensors - there are no shortcuts when it comes to controlling and safeguarding your engines. The kit comes complete with the high pressure fuel system - as per the regular EFI kits, we utilise an N75 boost solenoid to control the boost levels via the ecu, our extremely well established D400 ecu is controlled via SXTune which is a free download, the ecu is open and changes are easily made, we'll supply the ecu with a non intercooled file or intercooled file depending on the kit purchased.
PERFORMANCE OF A STANDARD CAR. Our own MGB was prepared for the conversion by changing the oil, plugs and setting the tappets, we have no idea what condition the 70k mile engine is in and we wanted the testing to be 100% honest, fuel was 95. So its a true representation of what an enthusiast can expect with a good running MGB straight off the cuff. Results - exceptional! without an intercooler and 5psi boost thoughout the car made just over 120hp in a very stress free manner. Intercooled we set the target to eclipse the MGB V8 oem figure of 137hp and made it with ease by upping the boost from 3500rpm onwards from 5psi to 8.25psi - all in the software - our calibrations are MAP based so if you decrease/increase the boost the fuelling/ignition targets follow. The torque of 150 lb/ft created is extremely muscular feeling when driving which in reality is what the MGB needed more torque over a broader rpm spread, on the stock cam its obvious its losing efficiency over 4500rpm but we've worked hard to keep making power until higher in the rpm range to create a naturally aspirated feel to the engine.
SAFE GUARDING:- having control over the engine with inlet air temp/water temp etc we always introduce safeguards, so on a cold engine you're rpm limited until the temps rise - to save wear. If the boost suddenly increases the fuelling will move with it along with the timing adjustments, if the air temp increases the ignition timing is pulled away to stop damage. If the water temp rises and keeps rising beyond 100°C the ignition timing is pulled away to save damage and the rpm limits are reduced to give driver indication of an issue. So the ecu does its best to manage and look after your engine in a way carbs/dizzy systems simply can't. We have the function to run the system under closed loop control via the wideband sensor option in the downpipe.

POWER POTENTIAL:-
The GBC 20-300 is rated to well over 250hp so there is plenty of room for the big power engines, the GBC 22-350 will be a no cost option for those looking to get into the 250hp + range, also we've introduced a very, very fast road 276° turbo cam made for us by Newman camshafts based on one of our "boost" A-Series profiles, we'll also be introducing a turbo specific cylinder head spec, bespoke forged pistons and rods to suit. I suspect bolting the kit onto a motor already tuned with a hot head, fast road cam would produce over 150hp on its current 8.25 psi settings very easily- from there its simply a matter of deciding how much boost and power you'd wish to make!

The earlier cars have their intercooler mounted in front of the radiator, late cars have it mounted behind the front valence, some small modifications to the radiator support panel is required to route boost pipes and air filter on the early cars, being removable its possible to retro fit another one if the need ever arises.
